ALGERNON H. PENN
Algernon H. Penn is the President of Penn Consulting Group, a Chicago based marketing, media and public relations firm that provides strategic market branding, business development and communication resources to businesses and organizations. He is located at 200 E. Randolph, Suite # 5100, Chicago IL in the beautiful AON Center.

Mr. Penn started his media career as a sports radio co-host with WCGO Radio in Chicago Heights, IL. He co-hosted and produced a nightly local sports radio broadcast, “Let’s Talk Sports’” which was broadcast in the South Suburbs of Illinois and Northwest Indiana for ten years. Penn also covered the Chicago Bulls and the entire NBA from 1990-1999. He was fully credentialed by the NBA to also cover all NBA franchises. During this period, he produced “pre-game” and post-game interviews of Chicago Bulls players, other NBA players and coaches, team management and other local and national sports journalists. He would also produce “post-game” participate in team and league directed press conferences during the regular season, playoffs and the NBA Finals.
In 2000 Penn was hired as Regional Director for The Nehemiah Corporation of America’s Down Payment Assistance Program out of Sacramento, CA., which is nationally known as “The Nehemiah Program©.” Mr. Penn was instrumental in providing marketing and media for Nehemiah which provided the opportunity of homeownership for over 150,000 families and individuals across the nation.
While at Nehemiah, he was a roundtable member with “Cities-First©,” a public-private partnership between the U.S. Conference of Mayors and The Nehemiah Corporation of America committed to the development of commerce in urban cities while ensuring economic opportunities for those who lived in those urban areas. In 2004 as Vice-President of Strategic Communications for Home Gift USA, Inc., he was responsible for the development of “The Keys of the Kingdom Homeownership Initiative©.” a homeownership literacy model that impacted 4,000 African American churches across the nation.
Penn previously served on four Congressional Task Force Committees across the nation (Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis) addressing the needs of African American homeownership with The WOW (With Ownership, Wealth) Initiative, a national effort promoted by The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation that created one million African American homeowners from 2001-2005.
From 2003-2014, Mr. Penn served as Vice-Chairman of Outreach Strategy for ALNAC (Abraham Lincoln National Airport Commission) which was committed in building a third regional airport in the Chicago Southland area. Penn was responsible for public engagement with Clergy, Unions, Chambers of Commerce, Municipal and State Government. He was responsible and led ALNAC’s Public Relations and Media Campaigns.
He has served in the role as media advisor to the Cheryle Jackson 2010 Illinois Senate campaign and advisor for the Jesse L. Jackson Jr. 2008,2010, 2012 Congressional Campaigns and most recently, Special Advisor to the Lightfoot for Chicago 2019 Mayoral Campaign. In 2011 he was the Committee Chair for Rainbow-PUSH Coalition’s 2011 Jobs Rally which drew successfully drew three thousand unemployed jobseekers and culminated with over fifty applicants receiving job offers.
In 2015 Penn also was selected as the architect of “Thornton Townships Faith, Dignity and Respect” initiative. This effort led by Thornton Township Supervisor Frank Zuccarelli where Penn was project director. Under the auspices of Thornton Township Penn’s directed a delegation of local elected officials, clergy, law enforcement and community leaders to stand behind Supervisor Zuccarelli’s efforts to engage with the Emanuel AME Church because of its commitment to community peace and non-violence in their response to the nine murders of congregation members by a white racist. This led Thornton Township to take a position to have Emanuel AME Church to be nominated for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize. Penn efforts for Thornton Township received local, national and international praise for its efforts.
In 2019 Penn Consulting group facilitated a global effort to nominate Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize based on his sixty years of work for Civil and Human Rights in the United States and abroad.
He is a life member of the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Presidents Council, which provides scholarship opportunities for deserving minority students, and has served as an elected official on the Board of Trustees with the Village of University Park, IL.
